FREDDY GOT  FINGERED (2001)

Starring Tom Green, Rip Torn, Marisa Coughlin, Eddie Kaye Thomas, Harland Williams, Anthony Michael Hall, Julie Hagerty and Drew Barrymore.

Screenplay by Tom Green and Derek Harvie.

Directed by Tom Green.

Distributed by Fox Searchlight Pictures.  87 minutes.   Rated R.

Do you remember the worst film you ever saw? Well, that film would scoff derisively at Freddy Got Fingered, maybe even kick sand in it’s face. Freddy has not one single laugh or redeeming feature.

Tom Green mugs desperately in search of humor that never comes. His kamikaze style of comedy isn’t even outrageous anymore, it’s just sad. He squanders his starring, scriptwriting and directing debut in a movie where he sexually assaults animals, lies about child molestation and wears food on his head. And… well, that’s about it.

Poor Rip Torn somehow got roped into this crap. At least he can take solace in realizing he’ll still have a career long after Green gets reduced to making a living asking, “would you like fries with that?”

Freddy Got Fingered will have you nostalgic for those carefree (and comparatively funny… well okay, not funny) days of Pauly Shore movies. The tag line for this movie says “This time you can’t change the channel.” True, but you can stay far, far away from any theater or video store that has Freddy Got Fingered. (4/01)
