Heather Nova with Mishka & Kate Grom – Ardmore Music Hall – Ardmore, PA – May 21, 2017
What an odd night it was on Sunday, May 21 with a rare show by both Heather Nova and her brother Mishka at the wonderful Ardmore Music Hall. With the high red curtains as a backdrop, a connection to Twin Peak’s famous red décor on that night of the return premier made it a surreal moment for all. Will this moment of great music be just fleeting or a hint of more to come? None of that was revealed, but, rest assured, Heather Nova and Mishka delivered a brilliant live show.
Casually sliding back and forth between guesting on each other’s songs and doing a few duets, Nova and Mishka’s talents were readily apparent. Nova’s songwriting prowess was as obvious as ever on works like “London Rain” and “Sea Glass.” Mishka’s “Coastline Journey” was a delight and their joint work “Downstream” was certainly a highlight. A great cover of David Bowie’s “Starman” was a fitting end to a great night of music.
Kate Grom was a wonderful opener. A great voice with some catchy hooks on songs like “Whiskey Eyes,” she is a songwriter and vocalist to look out for.
