Ladysmith Black Mambazo – World Café Live – Philadelphia, PA – March 15, 2017

Last Wednesday Ladysmith Black Mambazo provided some much needed tonic for the soul with their rousing vocal stylings. The South African-based all-male choral group wowed a World Café Live audience with a setlist spanning their vast career going back to the 1960’s.

Founder Joseph Shabalala led their glorious harmonies that radiate the wavelengths of joy and happiness. “Long Walk to Freedom” was pointed and stunning live. And to hear them do two works that they collaborated with Paul Simon on for Graceland – “Diamonds on the Soles of Her Shoes” and “Homeless” – was breathtaking.

Playful and rich in spirit, Ladysmith Black Mambazo is a one-of-a-kind group that is necessary live viewing, especially in these troubled times.
