Role Model & Samia – The Highmark Mann Center for the Arts – Philadelphia – September 23, 2026
After releasing his third studio album, Chuck Timely and The Hourglass, back in August, Tucker Pillsbury, also known as pop sensation Role Model, kicked off “Chuck on Tour” in Bend, Oregon. He returned this week to Philadelphia the Skyline Stage at Highmark Mann, which has gorgeous views of the Philadelphia cityscape in the distance.
With the energy high and the atmosphere bright, the opening act, Samia, took the stage to begin the electric night. Her angelic vocals filled the venue with her most notable ballads consisting of “Big Wheel,” “Triptych,” and “Pool.” Her presence brought an ethereal vibe to the crowd, swaying along to the indie-pop tracks.
The anticipation was soaring when Role Model took the stage opening the show with numerous hits, including, “Chuck’s Mantra,” “High Hopes 3000,” and “Look At That Woman,” which is from his sophomore album, Kansas Anymore. The crowd, fully in the moment, was singing, dancing, and having a marvelous time, while Role Model was strutting across the stage and showing off his moves.
During the height of his set, Pillsbury got off stage to put a special fan on the mic. The song, “Love I You,” features a speaking portion with actress Dakota Johnson. He utilized this segment to let a fan in the echoing crowd have a moment they will never forget. The lights shining brightly captivated the atmosphere, enhancing the crowd’s overall experience and bringing attention only to him.
Without grand theatrics on stage or over-the-top props, people might assume that the show lacked engagement. However, Pillsbury knew how to keep the audience entertained with his charisma and lighthearted moments, keeping the overall energy alive in between songs. He was able to connect to the audience in a way that did not feel like there were thousands of people there. He connected on a more personal level. The setlist, which heavily featured tracks from his albums, Chuck Timely and The Hourglass and Kansas Anymore, bonded the audience through storytelling, heartbreak, and vulnerability.
What stood out in his performance, however, were his live vocals. Pillsbury’s voice carried exceptionally well with his acoustic guitar, which brought warmth to his poppier tracks. His voice made the more upbeat and cheery songs seem more intimate and deeper. Role Model also had great versatility with his raw vocals. Whether belting energetically or stripping the song down to only his voice and guitar, he effortlessly delivered a vocal performance that kept the audience engaged while connecting with them authentically.
With emotions high and spirits dazzling, Role Model closed out his show with, “Sally, When The Wine Runs Out” and “Harmony.” The energy in the crowd was thrilling with fans dancing and screaming every lyric and phrase. The show ended on a high, which left the crowd leaving a bit melancholy with post-concert depression. Role Model has never failed to make his shows enjoyable, fun, and generally a memorable night full of fun. I am very grateful and appreciative to have attended his show as he is one of my favorites.
